Underground Live Listening Station
The Underground Live Listening Station is an indoor sound installation composed of tall grass planted in soil and embedded with several microphones. An oscillating fan, an active component of the work, drives air through the grass, causing it to bend, sway and move the stems and roots. These movements generate sounds that travel through the plant matter and permeate the soil, where they are captured by the microphones and amplified in real time.
What visitors hear is a live acoustic system: air, plant, soil, and infrastructure interacting within the exhibition. By making circulation audible and physical, the work reveals how environments shape and transmit energy, sound, and motion, even in spaces assumed to be still.
